Most website redesigns run late or disappoint for the same reasons: unclear goals, missing content, a scope that grows halfway through and search traffic lost at launch.
This checklist covers the decisions to make before you brief anyone, what to watch during the build and what to check on launch day.
- Agree goals, metrics and scope in writing before you talk to agencies.
- Export your current URLs and organic traffic before any changes.
- Plan content early. Missing copy is the most common cause of delay.
- Use our free website redesign brief template to put it all in one document.
Before you start
- Name one project owner with authority to decide.
- Write down three to five goals, each with a metric, today’s baseline and a target date.
- Define the buyers the site is for and the questions they need answered.
- List what works on the current site and must be kept.
- Agree a budget range and a realistic launch date.
Give every agency the same brief. Our website redesign brief template covers goals, buyers, scope, requirements, SEO and acceptance criteria.
Scope and content
- Sitemap with every page type and a page count.
- Who writes each page, and by when.
- Proof assets: case studies, logos, testimonials, with permission.
- Forms, CRM connections, booking tools and any calculators or gated downloads.
- Languages or regions, if any.
Design moves fast; approved copy does not. Start writing the key pages as soon as the sitemap is agreed.
SEO migration
A redesign can wipe out years of search traffic if URLs change without a plan. Google’s Google’s site move guidance is clear on the basics.
- Export all current URLs and their organic clicks from Search Console.
- Keep URLs that rank wherever you can.
- Map every changed URL to its new destination with a permanent 301 or 308 redirect, one hop, no chains.
- Do not redirect many old pages to the homepage.
- Keep redirects for at least a year.
- Remove any noindex or robots.txt blocks used during staging before launch.
Accessibility, speed and security
| Area | Target |
|---|---|
| Accessibility | WCAG 2.2 AA, tested before launch |
| Loading | Largest Contentful Paint 2.5 seconds or less (web.dev Core Web Vitals guidance) |
| Responsiveness | Interaction to Next Paint 200 milliseconds or less |
| Stability | Cumulative Layout Shift 0.1 or less |
| Security | SSL, spam protection, backups, least-access logins |

Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about working with us.
How much does Hypergrow charge for a B2B website?
A fixed price agreed in writing after a short call, based on page count, content and integrations. There is no prepayment and no limit on corrections.
How long does a Hypergrow website project take?
Most B2B sites take about six weeks from discovery to launch, depending on page count and how quickly content and approvals come in.
Do you build on Webflow or WordPress?
Both. We recommend one after hearing who will edit the site and which tools it must connect to.
Can you work with our in-house team?
Yes. We can run SEO end to end or support your team or current agency, with a clear written split of who does what.
How long does a B2B website redesign take?
Usually six to twelve weeks, longer with many pages, complex integrations or slow approvals.
Will a redesign hurt our SEO?
It can if URLs change without redirects or strong content is removed. With a migration plan, most sites keep their traffic and often grow it.
How often should a B2B company redesign its website?
Redesign when the site no longer supports your positioning, buyers or tools, not on a fixed schedule. Many teams improve continuously instead.
What should be in a website redesign brief?
Goals and metrics, buyers, scope and sitemap, requirements, SEO migration, accessibility and speed targets, budget, timeline, stakeholders and acceptance criteria.
Who should write the content for a redesign?
Whoever knows the buyers best, supported by a writer. Agencies can write it, but your team must review for accuracy.
What is a 301 redirect?
A permanent redirect that sends visitors and search engines from an old URL to its new one, passing most ranking signals along.
